Read Across America Week

Our school community had a wonderful time celebrating Read Across America Week at AOMM! Throughout the week, students and staff came together to celebrate the joy of reading with themed dress-up days, fun activities, and special literacy moments that filled the building with excitement.

The week kicked off with Hat Day in honor of Cat in the Hat Day. Hallways were filled with creative hats of all shapes and sizes as students proudly showed off their headwear while celebrating one of the most beloved storybook characters. It was the perfect way to begin a week focused on books and imagination.

Next came Silly Sock Day inspired by Fox in Socks. Students arrived in bright, mismatched, and wonderfully wacky socks that added color and laughter to classrooms across campus. The playful spirit reminded everyone that reading can be just as fun as it is meaningful.

Midweek brought Wacky Wednesday, and the name said it all! Outfits were inside-out, backwards, mismatched, and wonderfully strange. From wild hairstyles to unusual clothing combinations, students fully embraced the silly theme while continuing to enjoy reading activities throughout the day.

Later in the week, we celebrated Lorax Day, with students and staff wearing orange to honor the beloved character who speaks for the trees. The day served as a fun reminder of the importance of caring for our planet while enjoying the stories that inspire us.

In addition to the dress-up days, we also had several Grab-and-Go's that allowed students to pick up some fun snacks and hats!

The celebration concluded with one of the most anticipated events of the week — our Storybook Parade! Students dressed as their favorite book characters and proudly paraded through the enrichment room, bringing stories to life. From classic characters to modern favorites, the parade was a joyful showcase of creativity and a perfect ending to a week dedicated to reading.

Read Across America Week at AOMM was a fantastic reminder of how books can bring people together, spark imagination, and inspire lifelong readers. We are so proud of our students and staff for making this week such a fun and memorable celebration of literacy!
